HPA is a U.S. private school on the Big Island of Hawai‘i serving day and boarding students in grades 9 to 12. We offer a four-year college-preparatory program as well as a post-graduate gap year.

At HPA, we take full advantage of all these attributes to create an academically-ambitious yet fun-loving school community.
International students are valued members of our HPA community. Boarders come from 23 countries and 16 U.S. states and territories. After graduation, our alumni form a diverse, worldwide HPA ’ohana (family), as we say here in Hawai‘i.
Our diverse curriculum combines traditional coursework with hands-on projects and immersive learning. Our dedicated teachers will mentor you and help you become a confident, self-driven learner. Expert English language instruction available for those who desire it.
Feel the excitement of our Ka Makani spirit. Each afternoon, when classes are finished, everyone participates in a sport or activity, with different choices offered throughout the year, so there’s always something fun and new to try.
Explore the majestic landscapes and cultural significance of Hawai‘i Island and our region through hiking, kayaking, and other trips. Develop teamwork and leadership skills. Snorkel with manta rays. Learn to scuba. The list goes on and on.

This will be your home away from home, where you gain independence and make friends from the U.S. and around the world. Each dorm is supervised by faculty living on each floor and has 24/7 security.
